Frontex officers will be deployed in the Republic of Moldova
Officers of the Agency of European Border and Coast Guard standing corps will be deployed in the Republic of Moldova. Frontex teams will report to Moldovan authorities and help verify and record state border crossings. According to Moldova 1 TV, negotiations on the agreement are to take place between the European Council and the Republic of Moldova.
"Moldova needs EU assistance because of the critical situation caused by the war in Ukraine. Additional support is needed for refugee accommodation, as well as for border management. The agreement will allow the deployment of Frontex teams to carry out administrative activities and tasks, including registrations and border checks, under the command of the Moldovan authorities", said Anitta Hipper, a spokeswoman for the European Commission.
Recently, the Frontex agency sent 150 officers to Romania to manage the flow of Ukrainian refugees.
