War in Ukraine: Krivoy Rog and Zhitomir cities were bombed

Russian forces bombed three settlements in the Krivoy Rog district, Mikhail Lukashuk, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, said on Sunday. At least one person was killed in a rocket attack on the city of Malin in the Zhitomir region, a senior Ukrainian military official said on Sunday, according to digi24.ro

Ten shells were fired on the village of Marianske, and two others hit the Apostolove community. A Russian rocket also crashed into the Samara River in the Pavlograd district.

According to Lukashuk, there were no casualties and the infrastructure was not damaged. The official assures that there are no Russian occupation troops in the region, CNN reports.

Referring to the bombings in Zhitomir, local authorities said: "For now, I can't say anything more specific, except that the information about a victim has already been confirmed. The attack on Malin is very similar to the one on May 20. There was a fire on the spot, it was extinguished right away," said Vitali Buneciko, head of the regional military administration in Zhitomir, according to a post on Telegram of the Ukrainian Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security.

Ukraine's Air Command had earlier announced that Russian forces had fired rockets at infrastructure facilities in the Zhitomir region on Sunday. The region was attacked from the southeast with cruise missiles fired from the sea, the Ukrainian Air Command Centre said.

According to the same source, four Russian cruise missiles were destroyed by the Ukrainian air defence. Three missiles were destroyed by planes and another by an anti-aircraft missile unit.

Zhitomir region is located west of Kyiv in northern Ukraine.
