Hundreds of women protested in Yakutsk against the mobilization
About 400 people, mostly women, organized a protest against the mobilization in Ordjonikidze Square, in the city of Yakutsk, in the Republic of Yakutia (Sakha), an autonomous Russian republic located in the far north, reports SakhaDay, quoted by Rador.
The action took place in the form of a traditional Yakut dance, which involves the formation of a circle. It is about a traditional dance of the locals known as osuokhai. Locals from all sectors of Yakutsk gathered in the city's central square.
The young women were the first to hold hands, forming a human circle, later being supported by the older ladies, after which other protesters gradually began to join them. Anti-war slogans were chanted: "No to war!", "No to genocide!", "Leave!". At the beginning of the protest, the police tried to persuade the protesters to give up and disperse, then they stepped aside and let the ladies dance the osuokhai. At one point, the police were right in the center of the circle formed during the dance. In a video posted by SakhaDay, women can be heard chanting: "Let our children live!"
After a certain time from the start of the protest, the police started making arrests, and the protesters chanted "Shame!". It is not known exactly how many people were arrested. The head of the Yakutia Civic Chamber, Anjelika Andreeva, made a statement during the action, according to which "osuokhai, the dance in the central square of Yakutsk is actually the blessing of mothers for the return of their husbands and sons to life".
Actions against mobilization began in Russia on September 21. Over 1,300 people were detained in Russian cities. According to the latest data provided by "OVD-Info", over 800 people were detained at the protests held on Saturday, September 24.
