TSUNAMI in Indonesia: Death toll 168 and 745 injured
At least 168 people died and another 745 were injured after a tsunami hit Sunday morning coastal areas in Indonesia, BBC News online reported.
Representatives of the Disaster Management Agency have announced that hundreds of buildings have been destroyed. Many people are missing after the tsunami in the Sunda Strait in Indonesia.
According to specialists, the tsunami was generated by the Krakatoa Volcano, which erupted on Friday for two minutes and 12 seconds, creating a smoke cloud of about 400 meters.
The wave hit the Indonesian regions of Pandeglang, South Lampung and Serang. Among the affected areas are Tanjung Lesung, located in Java.
The Sunda Strait, located between the Java Islands and Sumatra, connects the Java Sea and the Indian Ocean.
Authorities have warned residents to move away from the coastline, as a second tsunami may follow.
The Tsunami was Saturday at 21:30 local time (Sunday, 1:30 pm, Republic of Moldova time).
