The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine have restored railway traffic, bypassing the Transnistrian region

After two months of intense work, railway traffic was restored on the Basarabeasca - Berezino section. The section will be put into circulation from September, initially, for the transport of goods. The announcement was made by Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu.

Thus, our country will be able to import and export goods from Ukrainian ports, bypassing the Transnistrian region.

The 23 km long section was rehabilitated based on a Memorandum of Understanding, signed at the end of June with the Ukrainian Minister of Infrastructure, Oleksandr Kubrakov. According to the document, the Ukrainian side restored 22 km of its territory, and the Moldovan side – 1 km of railway. The Ukrainian official is to participate, on Monday, August 22, in the ceremony of putting the railway section into operation, which will take place in the town of Basarabeasca.

According to the Ukrainian media, the mentioned section has not been working since 1997.

With the re-establishment of railway traffic between the Berezino-Basarabeasca stations, the railway connection will be made to the Ismail and Reni ports.
