MEP: European Commission could provide a reply to the Republic of Moldova in the first week of June
The European Commission could provide an answer to the Republic of Moldova regarding the application for accession to the European Union (EU) around June 7, according to the Romanian MEP Ramona Strugariu, Radio Moldova reports.
The European official said in an interview with Free Europe that there are no member states that have any reservations about the Republic of Moldova or Ukraine or even Georgia. According to her, however, there is skepticism about a new wave of enlargement of the European Union.
"I think this restraint is personalized, this slight skepticism comes from some Member States . They are cautious about joining or the opportunity for a new wave of accession in the current conditions. On the other hand, if not now, when, because if we were in quiet times and in another context, we might not have such advanced discussions at this time. I think it's a time for reflection and decisions that we can make quickly. Around June 7, we are waiting for this answer from the commission to see if it is in the first week of June or a little later ", said the Romanian MEP Ramona Strugariu.
We remind you that the Republic of Moldova signed the application for accession to the European Union on March 3, together with Ukraine and Georgia. Chisinau subsequently submitted the two questionnaires to the bloc.
On May 5, 2022, the European Parliament voted a resolution calling for the granting of the status of candidate country for accession to the European Union of the Republic of Moldova.
