Maia Sandu with reference to the so-called "plebiscites" in Ukraine: the Republic of Moldova does not recognize any action subsequent to these fake "referendums"

The Republic of Moldova does not recognize the results of the so-called "referendums", held by pro-Russian forces in four regions of Ukraine. Officially, Chisinau considers these "plebiscites" fake and, therefore, does not recognize "any subsequent action to these fake "referendums". The statement was made by the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, in a joint conference held with Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for Budget and Administration, who is on an official visit to Chisinau.

"The Republic of Moldova respects the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and, respectively, considers the referendums false and does not recognize any action subsequent to these false referendums," declared Maia Sandu.

In this context, the head of state mentioned that the relationship between the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation was considerably affected by the war started by Russia in Ukraine. The Republic of Moldova condemns this military aggression that violates international law and Ukraine's sovereignty, Maia Sandu said.

"As for the relationship between the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation, it was dramatically affected by the invasion of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. We have condemned and will continue to condemn this war and we will condemn these actions that do not respect international law, do not respect the integrity and sovereignty of other countries", declared Maia Sandu.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the decree at midnight from Thursday to Friday by which Russia recognizes the independence of the Ukrainian regions of Zaporozhye and Kherson.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, summoned the National Security and Defense Council of the country for an emergency meeting on Friday, the day when Russian President Vladimir Putin will sign - as announced by the Kremlin - the annexation treaties of the four occupied Ukrainian regions.

In a telephone conversation held earlier with the president of Poland, Andrzej Duda, Volodymyr Zelenski emphasized the need for a "strong reaction" from the international community to these "illegal acts" of Moscow.

Romania does not recognize the results of these so-called "referendums", which are illegal and illegitimate. They represent a serious violation of international law and, therefore, do not produce any kind of legal effect, according to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania.

The American president, Joe Biden, promised on Thursday that he would "never, never, never" recognize the results of the referendums "orchestrated by Russia" in Ukraine, writes AFP.
