Maia Sandu: Moldova is ready to support Ukrainian citizens
Moldova is ready to support Ukrainian citizens in case they need help. This was announced by the president of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, in the context of the growing tensions on the border with Ukraine. The head of state called for calm, urging the leaders of the countries involved in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict to act wisely.
In a statement to the media, the head of state condemned Russia's actions in relation to Ukraine. Maia Sandu reiterated the position of the Republic of Moldova and stated that our country supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
"The Republic of Moldova vehemently condemns hostile actions against Ukraine. We strongly support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. I urge the leaders of the countries involved in this conflict to act wisely to avoid violence or bloodshed", said Moldovan President Maia Sandu.
According to Maia Sandu, the government's goal is to maintain stability in the country and calm the citizens. In this context, the head of state stated that the situation on the border with Ukraine is being closely monitored by the Chisinau authorities. Maia Sandu called for calm and reiterated the call of the Foreign Ministry in Chisinau to avoid travel to the eastern regions of Ukraine. "We are ready to support the Ukrainian people in case they need help," said Maia Sandu.
In the context of tensions on the border with Ukraine, President Maia Sandu called on state institutions to closely monitor the sources of false news, incitement to hatred or propaganda and to take action in accordance with the law. "We are preparing the necessary measures to protect the information space in our country from elements of manipulation and propaganda. Our citizens must be informed objectively and correctly about the developments in the region ", said the head of state.
We remind that tensions on the border with Ukraine have risen after Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday recognized the independence of the pro-Russian separatist regions of Lugansk and Donetsk in eastern Ukraine and ordered Russian troops to enter those territories. The decision was condemned by the international community as a violation of Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty. Meanwhile, the State Duma on Tuesday ratified so-called "treaties of friendship, cooperation and mutual aid" between the Russian Federation and the self-proclaimed separatist regions of Donetsk and Lugansk. For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that, Ukraine expects "clear" and "effective" support from the West.
