The Republic of Moldova and the State of Qatar are advocating for the development of the strategic partnership

Prime Minister Natalia Gavriliţa had an official meeting with her counterpart, Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al-Thani. The official visit of the Moldovan delegation comes in the context of celebrating 25 years of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the State of Qatar, at the invitation of the Qatari Prime Minister, according to the Government's press release.

The officials discussed the issues related to the cooperation agenda of the Republic of Moldova with the State of Qatar, as well as the investment opportunities in our country. The meeting also addressed the regional situation in the context of the war in Ukraine, noting that our country needs strong support to remedy the consequences and to increase its resilience.

The Chief Executive stressed that, despite the difficulties of this period, attracting foreign direct investment in the national economy remains a priority objective, the achievement of which will ensure the stability and resumption of the development course in all areas.

Officials discussed issues related to the energy sector in the Republic of Moldova and how to cooperate to strengthen the country's energy security, including by creating strategic reserves, investing in renewable energy and diversifying access to various long-term energy sources.

Natalia Gavriliţa expressed her admiration for Qatar's achievements in strengthening food security over the past few years. Thus, the parties agreed on cooperation in the agri-food field both through the exchange of experiences and through the promotion of cooperation in the private sector.

Qatar's progress in supporting the social sectors was also discussed. In this context, the needs of the Republic of Moldova in the fields of education and health were listed, which could enjoy the support and experience of Qatar both for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova and for the integration of refugee children and families in Ukraine.

Also today, two bilateral agreements were signed between the Republic of Moldova and the State of Qatar: the Agreement on the abolition of short-stay visas for holders of ordinary passports and the Agreement on economic and technical-scientific cooperation in the field of agriculture.

According to officials, the signed documents will boost economic contacts between the two countries.

At the end of the talks, Natalia Gavriliţa congratulated her counterpart on the remarkable progress made by the State of Qatar in the field of economy and wished him success in organizing the first World Cup in an Arab state, which will take place at the end of 2022.
