The Republic of Moldova will participate in the meeting of foreign ministers from NATO member countries

The meeting of NATO ministers that will take place at the end of November in Bucharest gives an important signal both on the profile of Romania and the eastern flank and the Black Sea. The Republic of Moldova will also participate in this event for the first time. The meeting will include four sessions related to the implementation of the decisions taken at the NATO Summit in Madrid, the war in Ukraine, energy security and partners, reports Radio Moldova.

"The focus will be on the Black Sea in all meetings. A meeting with NATO partners from the Black Sea area and it is the first time that the Republic of Moldova will also participate in a NATO ministerial meeting. It is a meeting where the Foreign Ministers of Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Bosnia and Herzegovina are invited to discuss how we can better support them to strengthen their defense capabilities and the resilience of these states", said the Romanian Foreign Minister , Bogdan Aurescu.

The Foreign Minister of Romania refrained from making any assessment of the concrete chances that Romania has or not to enter the Schengen area. "Both on the technical side and on the political side, progress is still being made. There is a diplomatic and political effort that takes place at all levels", added Bogdan Aurescu.

The 26 countries that are part of the Schengen area are no longer subject to border controls, and Romania meets all the technical conditions to be admitted to this club. This does not happen because other EU states, led by the Netherlands, either close the file of progress in justice and the consolidation of the rule of law, or politicize the issue for the domestic electorate.
