Expert: The neutrality status of the Republic of Moldova does not fully guarantee the security of the country

The Republic of Moldova's neutrality does not fully guarantee the country's security, and the Republic of Moldova needs to improve and to strengthen its security structures, including the armed forces, said constitutional law expert Nicolae Osmochescu, Radio Moldova reports.

According to him, security can be guaranteed by the presence in the Republic of Moldova of well-prepared institutions at national level.

"First of all, the status of neutrality must be ensured at the national level and then it will have success and beneficial legal and international effects. But permanent neutrality is not given once and for all. The country, based on its national interests, may renounce this status at any time. Permanent neutrality does not mean in any case that the country does not have the right to military action to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity ", mentioned the expert in constitutional law, Nicolae Osmochescu.

We remind you that previously, Prime Minister Natalia Gavriliţa stated that the Republic of Moldova needs to strengthen its defense capabilities, especially in the conditions in which the country's security is threatened. According to the prime minister, the European Union has new funding instruments in the field of defense to strengthen the institutional capabilities and organization of the army, but so far the authorities have not requested lethal military assistance.
