Crowds of carolers announce the Nativity in the north of the country

Winter traditions are kept sacred every year and in the north of the country, so the households open the doors of the houses wide, waiting for the carolers. In Vasilcău, Soroca district, according to the customs, the carolers wear national clothes, take their Steaua and their sacks and start, singing, at people's houses, Moldova 1 reports.

In Vasilcău, Soroca district, the tradition of the ancestors is preserved with holiness. The groups of carolers of different ages, dressed in national clothes, set off with the carol around the householders' houses.

Housewives year after year, they say, are waiting for groups of carolers with gifts.

"On Christmas Eve, we bake Christmas cakes, as they are called, to receive carolers. We are glad that someone is opening the door for us, unfortunately the traditions are being lost, but anyway, we are waiting," said Svetlana Belous, housewife.

"Households need to be caroled, we are Orthodox Christians and we always keep the national traditions of Moldovans and we are proud of that," said Alexei Belous, the householder.

From Christmas until late in the evening, groups of carolers carry the wonderful news of the birth of Jesus Christ to the homes of the householders.
