The crisis in Transnistria will intensify if the Russian Federation stops the delivery of natural gas

The crisis on the left bank of the Dniester will intensify if the Russian Federation stops the delivery of natural gas to the Republic of Moldova, said Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian, today, in a public debate at the IPN agency. However, the alleged authorities from Tiraspol are reluctant and refuse an open dialogue with Chisinau, reports Radio Moldova.

"Our fear and this is what we told the people from Tiraspol, this is not the last problem in the energy field to be solved by us. We cannot exclude the "bad" option that gas imports from the East will be suspended. It has been said several times that the Republic of Moldova will not run out of gas under any circumstances, the problem will be price. What do we do with this situation with our citizens from the left side of the Dniester, here arises not only a political but also a moral problem. A state is obliged to defend its citizens", declared Oleg Serebrian.

The official also mentioned that in the worst case scenario, when no gas will arrive through the eastern pipeline, the Republic of Moldova will procure it from alternative sources, even if the price will be higher. The problem remains the provision of energy resources to the citizens on the left side of the Dniester, and from this perspective it would be good to have an open and constructive dialogue with the so-called leaders from Tiraspol.

The alleged authorities from Tiraspol have extended the state of economic emergency, noting that they are on the verge of a humanitarian crisis, due to the reduction in the volumes of natural gas supplied to the left bank of the Dniester.
