African swine fever outbreak, confirmed in Lozova village, Straseni district

A new outbreak of African swine fever was registered in the village of Lozova, Straseni district. It is about two households, in one they raised up to ten pigs, and in the other - around 30 pigs, reports IPN.

Specialists intervened on the spot and the animals were slaughtered. Also, at the entrance and exit of the village, posts were placed to prevent the removal or introduction of pigs, meat and pork products.

Also, the Commission for exceptional situations of the district  will implement a complex plan of measures for combating and preventing the disease.

The National Agency for Food Safety states that the samples taken in Lozova were tested by the National Reference Laboratory of the Republic of Moldova for African swine fever (IP CRDV).

Pig owners are urged to inform the ANSA territorial subdivisions, veterinarians or local public authorities as soon as possible in the event of illness and loss of the animals. They are also urged not to use food scraps in pig feed and to comply with minimum biosecurity requirements.

African swine fever is not dangerous to humans, but it spreads rapidly among pigs. If the virus is confirmed, the animals are slaughtered to prevent the spread of the disease.
