Vegetation fires in the south of the Republic of Moldova: More than 135 hectares of agricultural land burned last week

In the south of the Republic of Moldova, the cases of burning stubble after harvesting cereals have become more frequent. According to the Department for Emergency Situations of Gagauz autonomy, five cases were registered only last week. As a result, 135 hectares of agricultural land and the surrounding trees were affected, Moldova 1 TV reports.

Representatives of the Inspectorate for Environmental Protection in the region, as well as local authorities warn citizens about the danger of these fires. On the outskirts of Comrat, an agricultural land of over 90 hectares has been affected by a strong fire, although warnings have previously been issued that the burning of stubble and dry vegetation is prohibited.

"Approximately 5 hectares of land were affected. At the initiative of the inspectors, we always go out in the field to warn the population about the ban on burning stubble, which eliminates dangerous toxic substances ", said the specialist from Comrat City Hall, Alexander Peicov.

Not only the fields are affected by fires, but also the vegetation in the lands.

"The law forbids the burning of any vegetation, including stubble. The burning of plant waste, of any origin, in the open field, entails a fine for individuals up to 300 conventional units, and for legal entities up to 800 conventional units ", said the inspector Tatiana Dragneva.

According to the Department for Emergency Situations in the Gagauz autonomy, only last week there were five cases of burning stubble in the town of Comrat and the villages of Cioc-Maidan, Dezghingea, Etulia and Gaidar. During the same period, in the south of the country, firefighters were trained in 18 missions to locate and eliminate vegetation outbreaks produced in agricultural fields and lands.
