Old-style Orthodox Christians celebrate the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

Old-style Orthodox Christians celebrate today, September 27, the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, the oldest holiday dedicated to holy wood. On this day, the suffering and death on the cross of Christ is commemorated.

The Day of the Cross is honored by fasting, prayer and feasts. Believers fast to have a healthy family, growth and harmony in the home. On this day, the faithful bring to the church new jugs full of honey and milk. A red thread is tied to the torches of the vessels. Offerings are given as alms to the poor to commemorate the souls of deceased relatives.
