Warm winters keep the swans at home

Warm winters keep the swans at home. The Dniester has not frozen at all this winter, so the birds feel safe here, plus they have plenty of quiet and plenty of food. As every time, the people in Soroca make sure that the 500 swans, which can be seen daily around the city, do not lack food.

This fairy tale can be admired in the Soroca region for several winters in a row. Dozens of people, but also guests of the town, come daily to the river Dniester to feed the birds.

People say they also take into account the advice of the specialists and feed the swans only with dry bread and cereals. Stopping the migration of swans is a phenomenon influenced by the climatic changes of the last years, which bring with them milder winters.

The law prohibits the hunting of migratory birds. Those who hunt swans risk fines of up to 2,000 lei. In addition, each killed bird will cost the hunter a thousand lei.
