In the Republic of Moldova, the birth rate, which is so low, will continue to decline. Specialist explanations

In our country, fewer and fewer children are being born, the birth rate being declining. Data from the National Bureau of Statistics show that in the last four years, about 9,000 fewer children have been born in Moldova. Migration, divorces, but also the decision of families to have fewer children are just a few factors that determine the decrease in the birth rate. At the same time, the difficult material situation of many families is also a cause that amplifies this phenomenon, Moldova 1 reports.

Veronica Costiuc from Chisinau is 36 years old and is in her second pregnancy. In a few days she will give birth to a baby girl. The woman says that for her family, children are the greatest joy.

"The first at 24 and the second at 36. I feel very good, with the help of a good doctor and the pregnancy was better. Children are a gift from God and we will get to the end and we will enjoy every child," says Veronica Costiuc.

"It is this tendency to conceive a child later, if before it was on average at 20-25 years old, now it is around the 30s, when we accumulate more chronic diseases, when hypertension manifests itself, coagulopathies that again cause us problems during pregnancy," explains the obstetrician-gynecologist Elena Parpăuţ.

Doctors say that in the coming years, the birth rate will continue to decline.

"Marriages are now later, sex life begins much earlier. Various infections and viruses accumulate over time, which act on fertility and which obviously reduce the very process of conceiving a baby. Plus the daily stress, which causes hormonal disorders," adds the doctor.

Another factor that leads to a decrease in the birth rate is related to the age at which families decide to have children. In the situation where women over 35-40 years the chance of having a child is less and less. Thus, many of them resort to in vitro fertilization.

"We are facing the problem of being late to address a pregnancy. We already have a very large share of women after the age of 35. As a result, we have a female factor of infertility, which unfortunately is very, very difficult to treat. Usually, the infertility specialist must recommend a set of tests, in order to make a correct diagnosis, after which the doctor, infertility specialist, must propose to the couple what are the methods by which the infertility problem can be solved," mentions the obstetrician -gynecologist Natalia Sorici.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, 30,730 children were born last year - almost 9,000 fewer than four years ago. At the same time, statistics also show that, from year to year, the number of children born in a family also decreases. In 2020, half of the families had one child, 37 percent had two children each and only 14 percent of couples had three or more children.
