Starting today, Eurespal is withdrawn from all pharmacies and medical institutions in the country
Starting today, from all pharmacies and medical institutions in the country, Eurespal will be withdrawn in syrup and cough tablets. The Medicines and Medical Devices Agency reports that the ruling came after new preclinical studies done over the past year have shown that the active substance, Fenspiride, can cause cardiac arrhythmias.
Doctors are required not to prescribe Eurespal anymore, and in case of adverse reactions to the patients who administer it, report them. Eurespal is prescribed for the treatment of acute respiratory infections, as anti-inflammatory, antitussive and secretolytic, and is also prescribed for children.
The withdrawal of Eurespal from the pharmaceutical market in Europe began after the manufacturer of the preparation discovered that fenspiride can cause heart problems. The French Regulatory and Control Authority has triggered an emergency procedure in the European Union.
The product has been removed from sale in France and Romania. Now the medicine is re-evaluated by the European Medicines Agency. If tests show that it does not cause serious side effects, it will be put on sale.
