Tougher punishments for drunk drivers

Penalties for drunk driving are increasingly severe starting with today. The new legislative provisions come into force, Moldova 1 TV reports.

Drunk drivers risk to be deprived of the driving license for a 4-year period and to get it again, they will have to study again.

Also, instead of fines, policemen will force alcoholic drivers to sweep streets, work at morgue, or cemeteries.

Drivers who consume alcohol while driving will be forced to attend an anti-drug or anti-alcohol training.

The training course will take 20 hours and will cost four thousand lei. According to statistics, out of the five thousand road accidents produced over the past two years,  over 600 of them were caused by drunk drivers.
