Moldovan pilots held hostage by Afghanistan, released
The two Moldovan pilots, who were taken hostage by Afghanistan three and a half years ago, were released and are currently in a hospital in Moscow. This was announced today by the president, Igor Dodon, in a press briefing.
Igor Dodon said that their release was possible thanks to the support of the Russian Federation.
"Finally, our fellow citizens were released and were transported to Moscow. The pilots are in the hospital now and the doctors take care of them. I want to tell you that when I brought them to Moscow they did not think this could happen. Three and a half years they were kept in a pit in the ground, they did not see the sun, they told some amazing details", said Igor Dodon.
Igor Dodon said that most likely by the end of the current week he will go to Moscow and bring the two pilots to Chisinau.
We remind that on November 24, 2015, a model Mi-8 MTV1 helicopter, owned by a Moldovan company, was captured by militants of the Islamic State in Afghanistan after a forced landing.
The crew of the helicopter was made up of three pilots, all Moldovan citizens and 18 military passengers from Afghanistan.
