Ukrainian refugees in the Republic of Moldova receive monthly financial support

Ukrainian refugees who entered the Republic of Moldova after the start of the war in the neighbouring country receive monthly financial support. Thus, for each person in the family, 2,200 lei are offered, transferred on a card, which can be used only on the territory of Moldova. Refugee payments are managed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and coordinated with the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, Moldova 1 reports.

Financial support can be obtained from Ukrainians who came to our country after February 24. To obtain the card, refugees can register online or come directly to the Moldexpo Centre. It is valid only in Moldova, and payments are managed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, jointly with development partners.

"The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees offers beneficiaries a bank card, on which money is transferred monthly, amounting to 2,200 lei per person. With this money offered to refugees, we contribute with investments in the development of the local economy, because they are spent on the territory of Moldova," says Francesca Bonelli, UNHCR representative.

The money is allocated to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees by external partners, including the European Union.

"With our partners, we are also trying to help families hosting refugees. Development partners have begun to reorient their priorities, to provide support. The European Union has mobilised its efforts to support those who are suffering in this conflict, thus demonstrating our solidarity," said Janis Mazeiks, EU Ambassador to Chisinau.

The budget for the cash refugee assistance program in Moldova reaches $49 million and is currently scheduled for 6 months.
