The head of the SIS, on Radio Moldova: "They are trying to promote certain ideas and entities that aim to distort the social-political situation in the country"

The analyzes carried out by the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS) find the existence of signs of attempted destabilization in the country, said the head of the institution, Alexandru Musteaţa, in the show "La 360 de grade" on Radio Moldova. However, he states that there are no grounds to stop the protests that have been taking place in recent weeks, as the citizen's right to protest must be respected.

"We notice that there are also attempts to destabilize the situation in the country, on a political level. More and more efforts are being made to promote certain ideas and certain entities that aim to distort the social-political situation in the country, thus changing the governance. Together with our colleagues from the police, we monitor not to admit a coup d'état, not to admit destabilization, which would lead to the change of government through violence", said Alexandru Musteata.

The head of the SIS also noted that at the beginning of the protests, people were protesting peacefully, but lately, dangerous objects have been found at protesters.

"It is the citizen's right to protest, it must be respected. If we look in retrospect, in the first weeks the citizen protested and went home. Then we started to see more attempts to destabilize, to have altercations with the police, to provoke the police. Just yesterday, there were people who did not aim to protest peacefully, but they also had dangerous objects on them. In these circumstances our task is to collect information and to transmit information. We are trying to see if there are elements that seek to destabilize mass altercations, violence, and these things are inadmissible, illegal, they primarily concern the security of the citizen", stated the head of the SIS.

Alexandru Musteata also listed the security risks for the Republic of Moldova, referring specifically to the informational problem. In his opinion, this has taken "new turns", and more and more fake news is being promoted.

"Even if actions are taken, the informational space is invaded by false information that aims to distract attention, to inform, wrongly, to create panic in society", said Alexandru Musteata.

Also, the SIS director mentioned, the energy and economic security risk persists.

It should be noted that following the bombing of the energy infrastructure in Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova imports over 80% of electricity from Romania, at a price several times higher.
