Black Sea changes its colour, the phenomenon is visible from the satellite (VIDEO)

The Black Sea was colored in a shade of turquoise, which would be specific to exotic islands. A species of microscopic algae causes the sea to change colour to shades of bluish green. The phenomenon was followed in most resorts in Romania. The special hue of the Black Sea is also visible from the satellite, say the researchers, Moldova 1 reports.

The beautiful images with emerald-colored water were captured in Mamaia Nord, Eforie and Vama Veche.

"At the age of five, these blooms appear on large bodies of water, and somehow from the satellite the sea is seen as turquoise, a situation encountered more in the Bahamas, not in our country, in the Black Sea," says an aquatic specialist.

This shade of turquoise is unusual for the Black Sea and is due to a species of algae. The phenomenon is characteristic of the spring months, when the sea is colder, Romanian researchers mention.

"Algae are in the colonies. Where it is more azure, there is a higher concentration," says Adrian Bîlbă, researcher.

"They are related to certain influences of the obvious climate, but insufficiently studied in the Black Sea," says Răzvan Mateescu, head of the Oceanography Department.

The emerald sea can be admired by tourists who arrived on vacation in the first days of summer. The phenomenon is visible near the shore, but not on the entire coastal area.

"It's incredibly turquoise";

"It has a lighter colour, it looks changed, it's clean. In the past years it had more algae, now it is really clean," people say.

Specialists also say that the process of water flowering or algal bloom, as they say, which colors the sea in bluish green, is not a permanent one. The Black Sea will regain its specific color with the summer temperatures.
