War in Ukraine: Intense fighting in several regions, resulting in dead and injured

Russians attacked the outskirts of Zaporozhye with rockets and bombed a hospital, but no injuries were reported. Meanwhile, bombings also took place in Kherson, resulting in deaths and dozens of injured people. The attack comes as Ukrainians work Friday to repair energy infrastructure damaged by massive Russian strikes and to resupply millions of Ukrainians left without heat and electricity as winter approaches. President Volodymyr Zelensky claims that Moscow's strategy to keep Ukraine in the dark will not weaken his country's determination.

Several rockets hit the city of Kherson recently recaptured by Ukraine on Thursday evening. The Russians bombed several residential neighborhoods that had not been previously affected. At least five people were killed, and dozens were seriously injured. Following the explosions followed by fires, people desperately searched for their relatives.

"I was walking on the road. I live nearby. I was just returning home when the explosion occurred," said Oleg Lupalo, a resident of the city of Kherson.

"These were shells, there were a lot of sparks, like fireworks," says Ludmila Povod, a resident of the city of Kherson.

"Kurt", a commander of a military unit, stated that the Russian soldiers occupied positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River. While Ukraine's objective is to drive the Russians out, crossing the Dnipro River requires complicated logistics, as both sides have blown up strategic bridges.

The leader of Kyiv, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated in the message sent nine months after the beginning of the war that the work to restore the supply of electricity, heat, water and communications continues. The Ukrainian president added that the fighting in Kherson continues.

"Almost every hour, I receive reports about the attacks of the occupiers in Kherson and other communities in the region. Such terror began immediately after the Russian army was forced to flee the region. This is the revenge of the losers. They don't know how to fight. The only thing they can do is terrorize. Be it energy terror, be it artillery terror, be it missile terror - that's all Russia has degraded under its current leaders," said Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine.

The First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, said in an interview with the BBC that Ukrainians will withstand the coming hard winter, despite the cold and power cuts caused by the Russian attacks, and emphasised that "without victory there can be no peace".

"We resist! We are ready to bear it. We have had so many terrible challenges, we have seen so many casualties, so much destruction, that power outages are not the worst thing that has happened to us," said Olena Zelenska, the First Lady of Ukraine.

Since the beginning of the war, more than 15,000 people have been reported missing, according to the data of the International Commission on Missing Persons. It is not known how many of them were deported, detained in Russia, are alive or died and were buried in mass graves.
