Aureliu Ciocoi about the budget for fresh elections: I can't leave the country with no reserve fund

After the Central Electoral Commission set the amount of 125 million lei for the organization of early parliamentary elections, the interim prime minister, Aureliu Ciocoi, says that the budget must be reduced, as currently in the reserve fund are only 98 million lei, and the money for elections may be allocated exclusively from this fund. Meanwhile, the leader of PSRM, Igor Dodon, announced that President Maia Sandu wrote a letter to the Government in which she categorically requested that all the money from the reserve fund be allocated for the early parliamentary elections, a fact confirmed by the head of state.

"The president does not have such attributions as to categorically ask for all the money from the state reserve to be spent. We are in a period of uncertainty. That is, for four months we are in uncertainty and to take all the money out of the state reserve in this situation I think is a mistake," considers the PSRM leader.

On the other hand, Maia Sandu referred to the decree she signed on April 28 on the dissolution of the Parliament, specifying that money for the organization of early parliamentary elections will be identified.

"It is true that the government is obliged by law to allocate money for parliamentary elections," the country's president said.

Meanwhile, the interim head of the Executive told a private television station that there is not enough money in the reserve fund to organize the early election, and the Ministry of Finance is trying to identify funds to ensure the smooth running of the elections.

"Currently, the Government, in the reserve fund, because we can transfer the money to the Central Electoral Commission exclusively from this fund, has 98 million lei. However, as a responsible interim prime minister, I cannot leave the country with no money in the reserve fund," underlined the interim head of the Government, Aureliu Ciocoi.

On the other hand, the president of the CEC, Dorin Cimil, says that the amount of 125 million lei can be reduced only if the number of polling stations abroad is reduced.

"The amount of 125 million lei can be reduced if we decide to reduce the number of officials trained in each polling station. We do not agree to reduce the number of polling stations abroad," mentioned Dorin Cimil.

Early parliamentary elections are scheduled for July 11. At the end of last week, the Central Electoral Commission approved the approximate expenditure for the early parliamentary elections of July 11 - 125 million lei.
