Franco Frattini: The dialogue between Chisinau and the Transnistrian region should continue

The year 2018 was a significant and productive one for the mediation of certain problems on the left bank of the Dniester River. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Cristina Lesnic, after the meeting with the special representative of the OSCE for the Transnistrian settlement process, Franco Frattini, who is paying a working visit to Chisinau, reports Radio Moldova.

According to Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, the most eminent achievements are the apostille of diplomas, the change of driving licenses, the access of farmers to agricultural lands, as well as the registration of the means of transport in the Transnistrian region.

Cristina Lesnic specified that in the discussion with Franco Frattini reiterated that no unilateral action should be allowed.

Cristina Lesnic told journalists that Chisinau requires a visit to the representatives of the 5 + 2 negotiators and mediators at the Cobasna ammunitions depot on the left bank of the Dniester River. She said that this topic was also addressed at last year's and today's meetings.

According to the OSCE representative for the Transnistrian settlement process, Franco Frattini, the dialogue between Chisinau and the Transnistrian region should continue, and actions should only be taken in the interest of the citizens.

"The responsibility of the OSCE is to encourage and support the process, but we can not substitute the parties - those who are in dialogue, who come up with ideas, solutions and proposals. I hope the parties will look to the future, not to the past. I reiterate in my talks with the Tiraspol authorities about Varniţa, the Transnistrian weapons depot, those very important topics and I understand the concern here," said Franco Frattini.

TRM.MD recalls that the OSCE Special Envoy for the Transnistrian settlement process, Franco Frattini, is paying a two-day visit to Chisinau and Tiraspol for talks with high-ranking officials in Chisinau and political leadership in Tiraspol.
