President Maia Sandu welcomes the creation of an EU support HUB: "We contribute to consolidating and expanding the European security space"

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, welcomed the signing of the Agreement on the creation of an EU Center for Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) in Chisinau, and mentioned that it will bring more stability and security in the country and in the region.

"The status of a candidate country for the European Union is bearing fruit," the head of state said in a message that today, at the Council of Justice and Home Affairs of the EU (JHA) in Prague, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Ana Revenco, and the European Commissioner for Internal Affairs, Ilva Johansson, signed the Agreement for the establishment of the JHA Center in Chisinau. "This is the first time that our country participates in the JHA Council and also for the first time the European Union opens, outside its borders, a HUB of support for internal security and border management - in the Republic of Moldova", noted President Maia Sandu.

According to the head of state, the creation of the JHA Center is good news, because it means more security and more stability for us and for neighboring countries, but also more protection against the threats posed by the war in Ukraine. "We are thus contributing to the consolidation and expansion of the European security area, which from now on will include our country," said Maia Sandu.

The head of state also mentioned that today's decision is a proof of the European partners' trust in the Republic of Moldova and another concrete step towards the country's European integration. "Other discussions and other decisions follow, on other sectors, which will further strengthen our European path," said the president Maia Sandu.
