Radio Moldova: Evolution of the political system in the Republic of Moldova, 31 years after independence (AUDIO)
31 years after the proclamation of independence, the Republic of Moldova continues to be the poorest state in Europe, and the biggest problem is that during this period it did not achieve its territorial integrity, even if it went through several turning points , the deputy in the first Parliament, political analyst Anatol Şăranu, told Radio Moldova.
"One of these moments was the war of 1992, a war that the Republic of Moldova lost to the Russian Federation. The second big turning point was when the Republic of Moldova stepped on the path of European integration, which was strengthened by getting this status as a candidate for accession to the European Union", said Anatol Ţaranu.
Since independence, the evolution of the political system in the Republic of Moldova has been marked by a continuous search for identity, oscillating between the right-wing, center-right and pro-Russian parties, pointed out the political analyst, Ion Tăbârţă.
"The evolution of the political system in the Republic of Moldova can be divided into three distinct periods, probably, now we are at the beginning of the fourth period. The first stage would be the years 1990 - 1991, until 2001 we had a dispute between the parties from the old agrarian-communist nomenclature, we are referring to the Democratic Agrarian Party, the presidents Mircea Snegur and Petru Lucinschi and the national unionist forces represented by the People’s Christian Democratic Party and the Democratic Forces Party, which were the main right-wing parties at that time in the Republic of Moldova", pointed out Ion Tăbârţă.
The second political stage of the Republic of Moldova is marked by the communist government that remained in power during the period 2001-2009.
"After this period was one of stagnation, and then we have the period of 2009-2021 when from European integration, which was supposed to be the leitmotif of our development, we ended up evolving into an oligarchic regime. In the years 2016 – 2019 we embodied ourselves, personified by the oligarchic regime of Vladimir Plahotniuc. After this, through several electoral polls 2019, 2020, 2021, two parliamentary and one presidential polls in the Republic of Moldova we have a pro-European party that tries to implement reforms and a geo-political oligarchic coalition in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova that tries to oppose this reforms", added Ion Tăbârţă.
The lessons of authentic parliamentarism have not yet been learned by the deputies of any legislative, including the current ones, believes Anatol Tăranu, member of the first Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.
"We still have to learn the lessons of authentic parliamentarism, the degree of democratic debate that existed in the first parliament until today is not reached by any self-legislature in the Republic of Moldova", concluded Anatol Ţaranu.
In the more than three decades of independence, the Republic of Moldova has had eight heads of state. The first two were elected by direct vote of the citizens. In 2001, with the vote of 71 deputies, a leftist president was elected, and from 2009 to 2012, the Republic of Moldova did not have an elected head of state, being led by interim presidents. In November 2016, the election of the President of the Republic of Moldova by direct vote was returned, after a controversial decision of the Constitutional Court. These elections brought to the head of the state a leader of the left parties. Four years later, in November 2020, also through the direct vote of the citizens, a pro-European female president was elected for the first time.
Two lessons were learned by the Republic of Moldova in the 31 years, even if not until the last chapter, the experts finally concluded, the first would be the need to consolidate democracy in the state and the second, which can be attributed to the success of the Republic of Moldova, is that the majority of the population is aware of the necessity of choosing the European path and the European civilized world, the latter being the greatest achievement of the Republic of Moldova in the 31 years of Independence.
