A new file in the name of Alexandr Stoianoglo. The suspended general prosecutor will also be investigated for illicit enrichment and money laundering
The suspended general prosecutor, Alexandr Stoianoglo, will also be investigated for illicit enrichment and money laundering, actions allegedly committed between 2014-2015. The Superior Council of Prosecutors gave the consent to the designated prosecutor, Victor Furtuna, to investigate the alleged crimes. According to IPN, the state prosecutor would have found in the investigation process of the criminal file in which Alexandr Stoianoglo is concerned certain indications of committing new crimes.
Depending on the results of the investigations carried out, within up to 30 days, Victor Furtuna will decide on the initiation of the criminal investigation or the refusal to initiate the criminal investigation.
Alexandr Stoianoglo, who is currently under judicial control, was detained in October last year. So far, the criminal investigation has been completed on one charge - exceeding the duties of the office. He is also accused of passive corruption, giving false statements before a competent body and favouring an organised criminal group. The suspended Attorney General pleads not guilty to all charges.
At the end of May, the CSP proposed to the head of state the release of Alexandr Stoianoglo from the position of general prosecutor. CSP took note of the commission's report, which assessed its activity as unsatisfactory.
